The One Millionth Brompton Visits Melbourne

It only takes a pebble to start an avalanche. Our ‘pebble’ started rolling back in 1975, in a small flat in South Kensington, London when engineer and creator Andrew Ritchie found himself inspired to design a better folding bike.

Fast forward over 40 years later and each steel-framed bike is hand-brazed by  highly skilled craftspeople at our London factory. Brazed to incredibly fine tolerances makes every Brompton incredibly tough and unique. Every frame ever made has received a unique frame number, stamped into the bottom bracket plate. (Q: What frame number is your Brompton?)

Frame Number 1000000

From hundreds, to a few thousands, to tens of thousands a year, our hand-made Brompton bicycles have steadily become known and grown in popularity around the world.

The One Millionth Brompton proudly wears this heritage on its sleeve. The vibrant ‘Ritchie Red’ is matched to the first production run of Brompton bikes ever made in the early 1980’s. The Brooks C17 saddle pays homage to Andrew Ritchie’s seat of choice back in the day. And of course, it has a rear rack – just like the original.
