How to fold a Brompton

Based around a single frame and wheel size, there are four types of handlebar to choose from; combine these with the different saddle, gearing and component options to build your perfect Brompton folding bike.

The Fold

The clever design means that the bike can easily be folded or unfolded in under 20 seconds. When folded, the bike is locked into a compact package, which can be carried or towed easily and conveniently stored almost anywhere. The chain and gears are in the centre of the folded package keeping them away from clothing and luggage.

Handlebars

The four handlebar types offer different ride positions for various styles of riding. The handlebar options mean that the small folding bike will give a superb, and comfortable riding position.

Each handlebar holds a different appeal. Click on the handlebars to see the riding position.

The Ride

The small wheels afford the bike great acceleration and manoeuvrability, which is ideal for stop-start city riding. The smaller wheel diameter also increases the strength and rigidity of the wheels. The suspension offered by the long seatpost and suspension block make the small folding bike comfortable to ride over rough surfaces and for longer distances.

Luggage Options

The Brompton luggage system aids this small folding bike to fit into your daily life. Instead of lugging a sweaty backpack for your day-to-day carrying needs the luggage system offers carrying solutions for almost every situation. The different styles and sizes of bags available mean there's a bag for your cargo, or for your look (on or off the bike).

Steering and stability are unaffected by the front luggage system, as the bag does not attach to the handlebar - instead the weight is on the frame.  The steering geometry is calibrated accordingly.

  • 3 Speeds : - A robust enclosed hub gear, a great choice for everyday cycling
