Join the fold – hire a Brompton

Almost since we started stocking Brompton folding bikes, we’ve had a fleet you’re able to test ride or hire.  However, to meet demand (being Australia’s largest-selling Brompton dealer), we’ve recently expanded our range of demo/hire bikes.

We are only too happy for people to take any of our bikes on a 15-20 minute test ride.  However, you may be interested in taking a Brompton for a longer ride, or to see what it’s like to ride on your entire commute. You may want to check it will get up ‘that’ hill.  Or, you may want to hire a bike to go for a ride, but need the convenience or security of a folder.  For any or all of these reasons, you can hire a Brompton, just like you can hire our regular rental bikes, or e-Bikes from Velo Cycles.

Across our range of demo/hire Bromptons, we have the three common handlebar variations (S, M and H) as well as a variety of gearing options (2, 3 or 6 speed).  We have standard steel bikes, many of which feature colour-coded components to give a reminder of how to fold/unfold (although we do provide thorough instruction on the process, it only takes a few minutes to learn). We also have three ‘Superlight’ bikes, featuring titanium components.  This means a total of eight Bromptons we can provide.

It’s always prudent to carry a spare

Existing Brompton owners love it – if they have friends visiting from interstate or overseas they can put quite a tribe onto the easy-to-transport Brommies.

You may also want to join up with the Melbourne Brompton Club, for one of their regular rides.  Most-commonly on the last Sunday of the month, they also sometimes meet up at other times for special events or rides.  Most recently, this was the Melbourne Tweed Ride held last weekend .

A number of MBC members (and Cory and Dayna from Brompton Junction Melbourne) attended last year, so this year it was backed up by even more Bromptonauts, and Liam our mechanic who, alas, couldn’t ride his Brompton as he used our Surly Bill Trailer to bring along our marquee and a display of Bespoke ChainringsBrooks Saddles, as well as provide mechanical assistance should it be required.

Quite a few test rode both Bromptons as well as one of our e-Bike hire bikes and smiles were had by all.  There was plenty of time to check out the Grainger Museum and the other wonderful bikes people were riding, but perhaps a little too long as, Cory had to dash so he didn’t get to to any of the ride this year.

The rest of MBC did continue on with the others, and so meandered through Royal Park, along the Capital City Trail and into the city, for a beverage at the Mitre Tavern.
